Review: I Give It A Year

World of Blackout 77-Word Film Review

I Give It A Year Poster

I Give It A Year
Cert: 15 / 97 mins / Dir. Dan Mazer

Are you sure about that? I gave it an hour and a half and that was too much*1. It's better than the trailer, but still not good quite enough to be its own film.

Essentially a collection of some very funny sketches mixed with awkward stinkers, and like most rom/coms these days, its humour is stymied by All The Whining™.

Some great performances*2, but it doesn't work as a whole.

Is the trailer representative of the film?
Kinda.

Did I laugh, cry, gasp and sigh when I was supposed to?
Kinda.

Does it achieve what it sets out to do?
Kinda.

Pay at the cinema, Rent on DVD or just wait for it to be on the telly?
DVD.

Will I think less of you if we disagree about how good/bad this film is?
Yes.

Will I watch it again?
No.

Is there a Wilhelm Scream?
Nope.

And because you won't be happy until I've given it a score...

*1 Yes, I am hilarious.
*2 Minnie Driver is the best thing in this film, seriously. And even Stephen Merchant and Anna Faris are relatively good, and I usually find them to be cinematic Kryptonite.
