Review: Broken City

World of Blackout 77-Word Film Review

Broken City Poster

Broken City
Cert: 15 / 108 mins / Dir. Allen Hughes

What a mess. Director Hughes, writer Brian Tucker and editor Cindy Mollo don't seem to know the difference between "complex", "convoluted" and "makes no sense".
Broken City fits neatly into one of these categories.

Elsewhere, CZJ looks thoroughly embarrassed as she delivers dialogue written as part of a teenager's homework project. Too many minor characters are platespun ineffectively, and the whole thing screams contractual obligation.

Some nice ideas, horribly executed.

Is the trailer representative of the film?
Kinda.

Did I laugh, cry, gasp and sigh when I was supposed to?
Occasionally.

Does it achieve what it sets out to do?
No.

Pay at the cinema, Rent on DVD or just wait for it to be on the telly?
Telly.

Will I think less of you if we disagree about how good/bad this film is?
Yes.

Will I watch it again?
No.

Is there a Wilhelm Scream?
No.

And because you won't be happy until I've given it a score...
